Total Mobility Scheme

Mobility Vehicle Dunedin are the leading mobility transport provider in the Dunedin and Otago region, and we are very excited that the Total Mobility subsidy in New Zealand has been increased from 50% to 75%!

This increase was temporarily in place during the Covid period, but it was recently announced that the 75% subsidy will become permanent from 1st April 2023.

The Otago Regional Council, along with NZTA Waka Kotahi, fund this scheme that helps Otago people with mobility issues to get around.

People who have difficulty accessing public transport can be assessed for eligibility to access subsidised taxi transport, with a 75% subsidy (up to $37.50) on eligible door-to-door transport.

Total Mobility Cards

Total Mobility Card

Using the TMO card will discount our normal fare by 75 percent up to a maximum fare of $50.00. Any amount over the $50.00 maximum is payable by the client.

Example 1: A fare of $28.00 would be subsidised by $21.00, with $7.00 payable by the client.

Example 2: A fare of $60.00 would be subsidised by $37.50, with $22.50 payable by the client.

If you are not currently a Total Mobility card holder, talk to your driver or give Matt a call - we’d be happy to point you in the right direction to ensure that you’re making the most of this subsidy.

Using the service

You must:

  • Present your Total Mobility card at the beginning of the trip

  • Have the full fare available to pay the driver. ORC will subsidize 75% to a maximum of $37.50 per trip

  • Travel in the vehicle to claim the subsidy. You cannot request a driver or others to collect goods and use the Total Mobility scheme to pay for the service

  • Not give or leave your Total Mobility card with any other person
